Business SMS and SMS API for UK businesses

Send text messages to customers and staff in seconds, from one message to millions. everymessage is a UK business SMS provider with two-way messaging, branded sender IDs, delivery receipts and every way to connect: web portal, REST API, SMPP, SOAP, email-to-SMS and file upload.

What is business SMS?

Business SMS (also called A2P or application-to-person SMS) is text messaging sent by organisations to their customers, staff or suppliers, usually from software rather than a phone. It works on every mobile phone without an app or data connection, which makes it the most universal way to deliver reminders, alerts, one-time passcodes and notifications.

everymessage has been providing business messaging in the UK since 2003. Our platform sends SMS alongside RCS, WhatsApp and email, with UK hosting and ISO 27001 certification.

SMS features

Bulk and personalised sending

Send one message or millions, with customer data merged into each text so every recipient gets a personal message.

Two-way SMS

Use dedicated numbers so customers can reply. Replies land in your inbox, trigger automated workflows or go to your systems by webhook.

Branded sender IDs

Send from your organisation’s name instead of a number, so customers recognise who the message is from.

Scheduled messages

Write messages now and schedule them for the right moment, such as the day before an appointment.

Delivery receipts

See whether each message was delivered, in the portal or pushed to your systems in real time.

Opt-out management

Add unsubscribe links to messages and automatically keep opted-out numbers off future sends.

Emoji and every language

Send Unicode messages when you need them. When you don’t, everymessage cleans text to the standard SMS character set, so each message uses fewer parts and costs less.

UK and international

Deliver to UK networks and to mobile numbers worldwide from the same account.

Business SMS FAQs

What is bulk SMS?

Bulk SMS means sending the same or personalised text messages to a large number of recipients at once, for example appointment reminders, alerts or marketing offers. With everymessage you can send bulk SMS from the web portal, by file upload or through our API.

Can customers reply to business text messages?

Yes, when you send from a mobile number. everymessage provides dedicated numbers for two-way SMS, and replies arrive in your inbox, trigger automated workflows or are forwarded to your systems by webhook. Messages sent from a name (an alphanumeric sender ID) can’t receive replies.

Can I send SMS with my company name as the sender?

Yes. You can send from an alphanumeric sender ID of up to 11 characters, such as your brand name, so recipients recognise the message. Recipients can’t reply to a named sender, so use a number if you need replies.

How long can a text message be?

A single SMS holds up to 160 characters using the standard character set, or 70 characters if it includes emoji or other Unicode characters. Longer messages are split into parts and rejoined on the phone: 153 characters per part for standard text, 67 for Unicode. everymessage can clean text to the standard character set to keep messages shorter and cheaper.

How do I send SMS from email?

With email-to-SMS, you send an email to an everymessage address and it’s delivered as a text message to the mobile number you specify. It’s useful for sending from email clients, or from systems that can send email but don’t have an SMS integration.

Do you offer an SMS API?

Yes. everymessage provides a REST API for sending messages and receiving replies and delivery receipts, plus SMPP for high-volume sending and SOAP for enterprise systems. API access is available on fixed IP addresses for firewall allowlisting.

Can I send SMS internationally?

Yes. Alongside UK delivery, everymessage delivers to mobile numbers in other countries from the same account.

Is SMS marketing legal in the UK?

Yes, with the right consent. Under PECR, you generally need a person’s consent before sending them marketing texts (with a limited exception for existing customers), and every message should offer an easy way to opt out. Service messages such as appointment reminders are treated differently. everymessage includes opt-out links and automatic suppression of unsubscribed numbers.
